XML Report Analyzer
Upload and parse technical XML-based DMARC Aggregate (RUA) reports into readable charts and lists.
FORMAT:
XML / ZIP / GZ
DATA POINTS:
IPs, Disposition, SPF/DKIM Auth Results
PROVIDER:
Google, Yahoo, Microsoft routing logs
What is XML Report Analyzer?
When DMARC reporting is active, providers send daily XML files detailing every IP address that attempted to send mail claiming to be from your domain. This tool renders those impossible-to-read XML files into actionable security insights.
How it Works
You upload the `.xml` or `.gz` file sent to your inbox. The analyzer extracts the source IPs, cross-references them with reverse DNS, counts message volumes, and explicitly highlights which sources are failing authentication.
Key Use Cases
Discovering shadow IT departments using unauthorized sending services.
Identifying spammers actively spoofing your domain name.
Confirming a new service (like Zendesk) is authenticating correctly before tightening DMARC to `p=reject`.
Advanced Details
Aggregate reports (RUA) do not contain Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or email subjects/bodies. They purely contain routing metrics and cryptographic outcomes.
Cybersecurity Pros & Cons
Security Advantages
- Reveals the exact IP addresses of entities actively spoofing your domain — actionable intelligence for blocklist creation.
- Identifies shadow IT senders (unauthorised CRM tools, marketing platforms) attempting to use your domain without permission.
- Enables safe DMARC policy tightening by confirming all legitimate sending sources are fully authenticated before enforcing p=reject.
- Volume data per source IP helps prioritise response — high-volume spoofers represent the greatest immediate brand damage.
Security Limitations
- Reports are delayed by 24 hours — attackers can complete a spoofing campaign before the data reaches you.
- Aggregate reports only show IP and authentication pass/fail — no message content, subject lines, or recipient data.
- Report volume from large sending domains can be overwhelming without automated parsing and correlation tools.
- Attackers aware of DMARC reporting can spread spoofed sends across many IPs to stay below detection thresholds per source.
